Curating: Theory & Praxis
Thisworkshop offers an introduction to the theory and praxis of curating. Over thecourse of a public lecture and three seminar sessions, it explores thediscourses, working criteria and critical challenges shaping the field today. While the emphasis will be on curating contemporary art, we will also addressother disciplines and traditions, along with the decisive impact of socialmedia over recent decades.Ourevent begins with a lecture addressing the agency and specific responsibilitiesof curators, including their relations with artists, institutions andhistorical legacies. The seminar offers a more hands-on approach. Case studieswill be introduced that juxtapose conventional and experimental modes of“display”, in the broadest sense of the term, from exhibitions to onlineplatforms to discursive formats and other, more peripheral modes of curatorialengagement. But seminar participants will also be encouraged to present theirown creative efforts and curatorial proposals, and to share productive feedbackand critical input.
